THIE KNIVES

Knives forged by hand one at a time between the hammer and anvil.

Hello. My name is Brian Thie. I am a part time knife maker. I do all the work on my knives including forging, heat treating, engraving, and finishing. I also make my own sheaths. I primarly make fixed, carbon steel blades of both plain carbon and damascus. I am as of May '08 a Journeyman Smith of the American Bladesmith Society and plan on improving my skills to achieve a Master rating.

This is a section that I have added to give updates of what I am up to in the knife making world. I will update this section as new things come up.

October 2011

Things have been busy for me after Blade show. Teh ABS hammer in at Troy Ohio was a lot of fun. This was my first time as a demonstrator and I enjoyed it very much. The turn out was good and I had very attentive audiences with great questions. I have been working on orders that have been for the most part similar pieces to what I have made in the past. I am excited about some upcoming orders with some more complicated mosaic patterns :) My next knife event will be the ABS Expo.

Thank you for your interest, and please contact me if you have any questions about my knives.

This is a picture of me with my knife that I used for the performance portion of the ABS test requirements for the Journeyman rating.

This is a picture of the knives that I submitted to achieve my Journeyman rating in May '08.

The above photo is a Bold W pattern. The Damascus is tile welded. The handle is African Blackwood and the fittings are stainless steel. I engraved the guard at the request of the new owner. The engraving consists of 24K gold wire inlay on all main and secondary scrolls. The background is relieved and stippled then inked to make a the engraving stand out and also to compliment the Damascus. I typically engrave components before assembly but this knife was engraved after assembly. You can see a "before" picture in my gallery page.

This piece has been sold.
